Hi I’m Sebastian, a passionate music lover and player with a broad taste. This broad taste allows me to enjoy a large variety and a generally unbiased view in terms of genre, which I’d say makes me a semi-decent critic. Well, I’ll jump straight to it then!
Best Album: Swans- leaving meaning.
Genre: Experimental Rock, Gothic Country, Jazz Rock
Review: Another incredible experience piece by Swans that really illustrates their creativity and brilliance. What truly shocked me about this album is the depression on it, they haven’t sounded this sad since Soundtracks for the Blind and I love it. The new lineup perfectly suites Gira’s vision for constant progression of rock and boundary pushing that Swans is known for.
Fav Track: The Hanging Man
Least Fav: The Nub
Runner-Up: Danny Brown- uknowhatimsayin
Genre: Alternative Hip-Hop, Hardcore Hip-Hop, Experimental Hip-Hop
Review: One of the funniest, wittiest, well-produced hip-hop albums out there! I had a blast listening to this, and I had a blast on the second time, and third, and fourth, and on and on. The production from Q-Tip is immaculate, bringing back fond memories of the Abstract that we know from A Tribe Called Quest and love. The features on the album with Peggy and Run the Jewels are perfect, adding so much to their respective songs, maybe not as much as his Kendrick feature on “Really Doe”. The album may pail in comparison to 2016’s Atrocity Exhibition, my favorite album of that year, but it still remains true to Danny’s near flawless discography(with the exception of Old).
Fav Track: Dirty Laundry
Least Fav: Change Up
Some other good ones:
clipping.- There Existed an Addiction to Blood
Genre: Experimental Hip-Hop, Industrial Hip-Hop
Review: Another incredibly produced, Death Grips inspired, brutal album by clipping., one of my favorite hip-hop groups out there at the moment. The incredible industrial, noisy production that clipping. is known for appears here in abundance. The lyrics are brutal and grotesque as they always are and as they better stay. It may not be as good as their debut album, clppng, they still did a magnificent job and put out an album worth listening to. I can only recommend this album to people into this type of stuff, as it is pretty out-there and scary to some.
Fav Track: Run for Your Life
Least Fav: Club Down
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Ghosteen
Review: A calm and soothing album for the soul. Reminds me of Low by David Bowie in the best possible way. Careful, it is very sad and emotional, dealing with lyrics on grief and loss.
Fav Track: Ghosteen
Least Fav: Fireflies
Kanye West- Jesus Is King
Genre: Hip Hop, Gospel, Experimental Hip-Hop
Review: It finally arrived, after a year of delays and random bull it has finally come, and it’s alright. I am a huge Kanye fan with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Yeezus, and The College Dropout being considered 10/10 in my book, this album is outshined by Kanye’s mega amazing discography. It is a shame but it is still a great album and the movie was great.
Fav Track: On God
Least Fav: Closed on Sundays
More mainstream taste:
Genre: Trap, Mainstream Rap
Review: If you like DaBaby, you’ll like this. It is really repetitive but it sounds like DaBaby so it isn’t the worst thing ever, still not very good.
Fav Track: GOSPEL
Least Fav: IPHONE
